Our Team

Penelope Daborn, ASID Allied, Principal

Growing up in Kenya and India, lands of sumptuous visual contrasts, Penelope’s appreciation of color and shape is as instinctive as it is learned. Her education in the U.K. and work in London, Vancouver and New York developed a discerning eye for spatial relationships, and an innate ability to listen was honed by years spent in the world of non-profit organizations. She opened Penelope Daborn Ltd. in 1996, shortly after moving to Maine.

Catherine Honeycomb  ASID Allied, IIDA Associate, Interior Designer

Catherine’s first career was spent on 7th Avenue in New York City, managing sales for the likes of Ralph Lauren and Elie Tahari, and it was here that she developed a strong appreciation for the elements of design development. Raising a family with a number of relocations, from Connecticut to California, fostered a passion for creating interior environments. With a BSc. in Interior Design, Catherine uses the latest technology to facilitate the design process from concept to completion.

Denise Dillow, Project and Studio Manager

Denise joined PDL on returning to Maine after pursuing a career in many other states as a senior manager for a telecommunications firm. Her experience broadened her strong management and organizational skills, which she applies in handling the many details of each project. Her previous experience in a professional workroom also gave Denise a thorough understanding of techniques in the fabrication of soft furnishings.

Brian Duffy, R.A., Consultant Architect

Brian has practiced architecture for 40 years, first under the tutelage of John Calvin Stevens II, and then with other major firms on projects ranging from the restoration of historic buildings to the design of Portland’s Metro station, Civic Center and Jetport. He opened his own firm, Brian E. Duffy Assocs., in 1997, and since then has undertaken a wide variety of commercial and residential work, including a number of projects at Colby College, such as the athletic center and several classroom and dormitory buildings. Most recently he has collaborated with the renowned Californian firm of Frederick Fisher & Partners as Project Architect on two new galleries and a studio at the Colby Art Museum.

As a founding partner of one of northern New England’s largest architectural/engineering and planning firms, I have worked with a number of fine interior design professionals. We have chosen Penny to work with on the selection of paint for our own homes; she has one of the best eyes for color of any I have met.

For me, Penelope Daborn Ltd. has it all , including the best choice in fabrics as well as in services. Penny uses the talented local skills of Maine craftsmen whenever she can, and, best of all, she is sensitive and open to your own ideas, taste, and schedules - all the while using her own considerable talents to guide you in making your home very much your own. She and her team are the BEST!
